I’m going to take my ball and go home.

So I have seen a story that makes me laugh so I had to post a second entry for the day.  This according to Liz Smith in the New York Post:

SUSAN SARANDON, who appeared in three films last year and won kudos for her TV movie “Bernard and Doris,” is still not a contented soul. She says if John McCain gets elected, she will move to Italy or Canada. She adds, “It’s a critical time, but I have faith in the American people.”

This makes me laugh because of the long list of celebrities of the past that have made similar claims and still live in the Good Ole U S of A.  Just a few of the previous celebrities that haven’t followed through with their claims. Barbara Streisand, Martin Sheen, Alec Baldwin and  Sarandon’s Better half Tim Robbins.  But Hey don’t think it’s all negative I also read that Johnny Depp will move back the America if Obama wins.

All this to say why do we care who actors, musicians, or Video Editors have to say about who they want or don’t want to be president, what makes their opinions so highly sought after?  Let’s just please look at the issues and find the candidate that best fits your viewpoints.

God Bless America!!

Field Day

Yesterday was field day for my son’s school.  It brought back great memories of field day, or as we called it Olympics day, at Tierra Rica Elementary in La Habra, California in about 1985.  The 100 yard dash, the three legged race and the water balloon toss.  I am and always have been a big guy so the 100 yard dash was not my cup of tea however the water balloon toss was an event I was a master of and was the event that usaully saved me from only getting the participant ribbon and actually get a first, second or third place ribbon.  I had the technique down with the scoop on the catch to disperse the energy.   Today no three legged race or sack race, instead the last man standing on a giant inflatable platform where you play a four way tug of war.  And a inflatable obstacle course.  They did however have the classic sponge relay race.  That is what the picture is of here, my son Wil getting ready to go and when the race for his team. Blow me up!!!!  Field day one of the great days in any Elementary school kids’ calendar, here’s hoping that this is something that never gets cut from budgets.

My New Arch Enemy

070129_cell_phone_texting Today I finally got to go see Iron Man and it was fantastic.  I wish this post was about the movie, but it unfortunately is not.  You see I have a seven year old little boy, which is plenty of entertainment in itself, so I don’t make it to a lot of movies that aren’t made by Pixar .  Today I sent the boy to the babysitter after school on an unusual Wednesday off so I could see Iron Man, a movie that my boss Debby has been all over me about seeing.  So I sit through the commercials before the trailers (not the new enemy), sit through the trailers (which I love), the movie finally starts and I’m really getting into it and out of the corner of my eye a bright light snaps me out of my emersion into the film and there it stands worse than any bad guy from the movie I am enjoying.  SOME IDIOT THAT CAN’T STOP TEXTING FOR 2 LOUSY HOURS!!!!!!!!!  Do they not realize that maybe it doesn’t make any noise it still is bright as can be and distracting to no freaking end.  Will it kill you to not touch your stinking phone for 2 hours.  Do your friends have something that will change your life with in those few precious hours that can’t wait until after I have finished watching the movie.  Are they telling you that they have cured cancer or figured out how to get me $1.79 a gallon gas again.  Then STOP TEXTING!!!!!!!  </RANT>

I feel much better now.  I’m really starting to see why my coworker Raul hates going to the theater and just waits for the DVD.

Memorial Day

There are many people here at NBC5 that are very talented in areas outside of thier job expertise.  Among them is my fellow editor Raul Rangel, he is a talented singer songwriter.  He also has a stepson in the Marines that he is very proud of.  Kerry (Raul’s son) has served two tours in the middleast.  Raul has written a song called “Outside the Wire” and made a video that honors Kerry and his fellow heroes that have served and are serving around the world.  Here is a link to the video.  Thank you to all who have served and kept this country free.

The Police and Elvis Costello

Last night my wife and I had the pleasure to fight through the $15 parking, $4  bottled water and $8 beers at IMG_1408PepsiStarplexSmirnoffSuperpages.com to see Elvis Costello and The Police.  It was like 1983 all over again and it was great.

Elvis Costello did a nice mix of old stuff like “Watching the Detectives” and stuff off his new record (and he does mean record) like “American Gangster Time”. The highlight of his set though had to be when Sting came out to sing Alison with Elvis.

After a great set by Elvis Costello, The Police came out and opened with “Bring on the Night”.  I thought this was an odd choice with it being a slower song but it was great.  They followed that up by whipping the crowd into a frenzy with “Message in a Bottle”  They did a real good job of playing some great songs that aren’t their big hits like mixing in songs like “Hole in my Life” with the big sing along greatness of “Every Little Thing She Does is Magic”.  That was the first half or so of their set and then it was time to launch into hit after hit.  The first encore of “Roxanne”, “King of Pain”(My personal fave), “So Lonely” and “Every breath you Take” was mind blowing, I just kept saying WOW!  As an aside it never ceases to amaze me the number of couples with their arms around each other and singing too each other to “Every Breath you Take”  do they still not understand this is not a love song, but a song about stalking someone?  Then my wife tells me that she’s heard of people having that song in their wedding, creepy!

In closing AWESOME!!!!!

Guitar Hero

Ok this week I have finally given in and bought a copy of Guitar Hero III.  I guitar-hero-3 know, I know this isn’t exactly a unknown entity, but I finally sold out.  And after the first bit of feeling silly with that little guitar draped around your neck like a 7 year old it is way too much fun!!!  They have really tapped into just about everyone’s desire to be a rock star.  I have been playing for 3 days strait while, my aforementioned 7 year old son begs for his chance to play.  He is having a hard time getting his turn while I pretend to be Slash, Santana or some other one named rock gods.  Speaking of rock gods, my wife and I will be going to see The Police and Elvis Costello tonight and the starnoff.com center.  Expect a full report.

Until then keep rocking

Lawn Mowers

So a couple of weeks ago my lawn mower ran over a tennis ball in our yard, and after changing the blade, realized the shaft was bent on it or something.  No matter what was wrong with it I needed a new one.  So I decided to wait for President Bush’s tax stimulus payment to come and buy a new one.  So today I went down to Walmart and bought me a shiny new mower.  As much as I wanted to spend the family’s entire check on a riding mower that would be irresponsible of me considering the size of my yard, big but not riding mower big.  I instead bought a self-propelled mower and wow it’s awesome.  I have a fairly steep slope at the front of my lawn and you have to give a strong push up it to get a normal push mower up it, but this thing just hold on and enjoy the ride.  I’m now unable to go back.

Yesterday’s sports day

Ok the Stars lost and it kills me, but I am going into this series with the idea that if they do anything it will be gravy.  They have already beaten the defending champs in the Ducks and then beat the team that may of the experts had picked to win the cup in the Sharks.  So it has been a successful post season for the Stars in my eyes.  Don’t get me wrong I’ll be watching Saturday screaming that the Redwings SUCK!!!!  GO STARS!!!!!!

Now let’s talk about what everyone is talking about, the Rangers, that’s right I said the Rangers!!!  OK they’re not talking about the fact that the Rangers have won 7 of their last 10 like they should.  Everyone is talking about the mound charging by Richie Sexon.  What got up his butt?  The pitch that sent him charging wasn’t even close to him, it is very confusing.  The part I loved the most was Tom Grieve’s tirade againt Sexon it was fantastic.  About twice a year TAGs will just meltdown and it is always must see TV.  Below is a compilation of his latest uncorking.  Enjoy!!!

Welcome to the edit bay!

I’m a video editor, back in the deep dark unseen parts of NBC5.  Well not really it’s really lit quite well.  On this blog I write about stories I am working on, stories that have caught my eye and whatever else people are talking about.  A word of warning I am a bit of a nerd so I have a leaning towards tech news.  I am also a big sports fan so undoubtably will get a bunch of sports stuff as well.  To be honest I hope to be as eclectic as I can.
